What can we expect this weekend then after the first two. Well for one thing we have a top of the table clash between 3rd place Barnstaple Chiefs (boy that feels good to say) and 2nd place Taunton in sunny Somerset. The more of the Mighty Barum Army that can get there the better, let’s bring the Barum Roar to Taunton. Many of you will remember how close we came to doing the double last season having already beaten them at home we were within seconds until a last gasp penalty kick saw Taunton snatch victory from us at the death.
Of course Taunton have had big wins so far and look in good shape, but their first two games have been against promoted sides and Barnstaple are already a much more confident outfit than they were when they faced Taunton last year. It will be a fascinating contest which definitely looks to be the making of a classic
The team news is, as many of you though, JP did indeed have a head knock so will be out for a few weeks, Bryn and Matt Gohl are still crook by looks of it. There is no word as to what injuries they have or how long they will be out hopefully not for long. Gareth Evans and Jarred Hayler look to be unavailable as well probably with the North Devon marines helping out in the Caribbean, well that’s where i assume they are as no one has said anything just a guess on my part. Here then is the team for this Saturday.
The Finishers are
16. Danny Southworth
17. James Starkey
18. Jake Childs
19. Luke Berry
20. Troy Willis
Let’s hope we Mighty Barum keep on Rolling
Elsewhere in the league Cinderford’s great start looks to continue as they travel to Henly. It will be an interesting test for them as Henly are a difficult opponent at home, as Redingensians discovered in week one. Talking about Redingensians they travel to Worthing who will also be looking to maintain their 100% record as well. London Irish finally have their first home game of the season and will be hoping to regain some ground when they host Chinnor, whilst Redruth should be back to winning ways as they host a struggling Wimbledon.
Other club news the juniors kick start their season as Phil Gordon’s under 13’s host Kingsbridge RFC u13’s kick off is 11am this coming Sunday. On Saturday the Colts have a friendly against South Molton at Pottington Road to warm up for the coming season unsure of when kick-off is yet but it will be an afternoon affair.
Next week see’s the Chiefs return home to take on Bury St. Edmunds kick off 2.30 and to round of the month 30th September we have Athletic at home to Cullompton and Amateur Boxing that Evening.
Enjoy the last of the summer days as winter approaches and come on the Mighty Barum.
