Come on the Mighty Barum

Rob Dugard crushing a Redruth player last season

Morning Fans and what a promising day we have today as Barnstaple Chiefs play their first home game of the season. Hopefully the weather will be kind but having woken up to these sudden heavy downpours interrupted by brief sightings of blue sky I honestly have no idea what the weather will bring. On a more upbeat note the lads are raring to get stuck in following on from last weekend’s great bonus point win at Wimbledon.

Visiting us today is Redruth and what a task this will be, having hit the ground running last weekend by demolishing Old Redciffians they have shown they are still a top four team and definitely title contenders.

Nelly Webber for The Chiefs 2010/11

A Pottington Road favourite, Nelly Webber, is in the starting line-up for Redruth, at outside centre. He was missing from the squad last year so it will be great to welcome him back with a Barum cheer or two.

The Stag on a charge

So the question is do we have a chance, well I think realistically we have a chance of a losing bonus point here and a genuine one at that  but after last weekend who knows we might just pull of something memorable here today. So make your way to Pottington Road and bring it large with a massive Barum Roar. Kick-off is at 2.30 although if you are earlier, and the bar is open from 12, Barnstaple Athletic are playing Redruth 2nd’s at 2pm on the second pitch.

Finally happy birthday to former juniors coach and huge Chiefs supporter Bob Tollafield who is celebrating his 60th here at the club today.

Thanks also go to Advanced Scaffolding (SW) Ltd for sponsoring today’s game.
