It’s nearly here as the 2017/18 National 2 South season finally reaches Pottington Road and the lads are hard at work in training preparing for what will be a massive test of their strength, stamina and skill as The Chiefs welcome Redruth to Pottington Road
Riding high from their 9 try destruction of Old Redcliffians at home last Saturday they are very much still a form side to beat. Although just like ourselves and Exmouth last season, Old Redcliffians found out how brutal this league can be to newly promoted sides.
However Barnstaple aren’t the newbies they were last year and a 33-13 away win with 5 tries to their name was the perfect start for head coach Steve Perry. Of course there is still plenty to work on, but it’s a great start and one that should give the lads confidence.
Is it time for our revenge and do we have the nounce to pull of a win, we shall have to see, but after two thumping loses to Redruth last year I’m sure the lads will want to get stuck into them this time round. And yes just like last year both games against Redruth will be played in the same year with the return game at Redruth on 23rd December just 2 days before Christmas if you fancy the trip.
Kick off is at 2.30 and if there is one game you don’t want to miss this season it’s this one, so hurry on down and grab yourself a beer before the bar runs dry and get them vocal chords lubricated we need that Barum Roar loud and clear.
Before that we have Barnstaple Athletic taking on Redruth 2nd’s in a friendly which kicks off at 2pm over on the second pitch. This will be a welcome test for Scott Warren’s lads with an away trip to Ivybridge on the 23rd and home to Cullumpton the following week.
There will be a collection for the Torrington Rugby FC to help with the restoration work after the disgraceful act of vandalism they suffered last week.
See you all on Saturday
